Coming hot on the heels of our most recent Thinkopolis report, which asked the question of whether bilingualism is still relevant in 2015, is a new report that says demand for translators and interpreters will jump dramatically over the next four years.

The new report from Career Builder lists “industries that are expected to add jobs at an accelerated pace from 2014 to 2019.” The study is based on data from over 90 employment resources.

The data is American, but it’s been previously noted that the Canadian market is considered largely comparable. Also, not everyone in Canada wants to work in Canada forever.

“Around one third of all U.S. industries are expected to outperform the national average for employment growth over the next five years,” said Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder. “While it’s not surprising that technology and health care made the list, the accumulation of new jobs will take place within a diverse mix of industries requiring a broad range of skills and experience.”

You might find a few of the industries surprising. It’s not just developers, engineers, and healthcare workers who will be in demand. Translation and interpretation services top the list with a projected 36% increase in jobs from 2014 – 2019. It also looks like a good time to get into residential remodeling, wine and beer wholesaling, and marketing.

These industries are projected to experience at least 15 percent growth in employment over the next four years:
