Canada’s Top 100 has revealed its list of the top 100 employers in Saskatchewan. Are you lucky enough to be working with one of these companies?

According to the website, Saskatchewan’s Top Employers is an annual competition, founded in 2006. It’s managed by Mediacorp Canada Inc. who also manages Canada’s Top 100 Employers (the same competition run nationally).

“This special designation recognizes the Saskatchewan employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work,” the website states.

Perks boasted by the companies on the full list range from family leave, to education and wellness incentives, to profit sharing and matching funds raised for charity.

For the selection process employers are evaluated using eight criteria: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement.

Here are some of the winners and a bit about of what makes them such fantastic places to work (see the full list and full descriptions here):

Access Communications Co-operative Ltd. (Cable and Telecommunications)

“Supports employees who are new mothers or adoptive parents with maternity and parental leave top-up payments (to 100% of salary for up to 17 weeks) and offers an option to extend their leave into an unpaid leave of absence.

“Offers the next generation opportunities to gain on-the-job experience through paid internships and co-op placements – and maintains an ongoing partnership with a local high school to offer work-terms to students with disabilities.”

Cameco Corporation (Uranium Mining)

“Strongly encourages ongoing employee education and development through an impressive variety of in-house and online training programs along with apprenticeship opportunities, subsidies for tuition and professional education and paid educational leaves of absence.

“Launched the exceptionally unique Touchdown for Dreams project in partnership with the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and the Saskatchewan Roughriders – the program was recently expanded and seeks to fulfill the wishes of up to 10 women living with cancer each year, from cruise ship vacations to home renovations to the leasing of a Mustang convertible.”

Moody’s Equipment (Farm and Garden Machinery Distribution)

“Invests in the long-term development of employees through tuition subsidies for courses taken at outside institutions (up to $1,000) and offers financial bonuses as an incentive for course completion.

“Provides opportunities for students and recent grads to gain on-the-job experience through summer student roles and co-op opportunities.

“Lets everyone share in the company’s success through profit-sharing – employees  also enjoy purchase discounts through any of the company’s suppliers as well as discounts on new Wholes Goods equipment.”

PotashCorp (Fertilizer Manufacturing)

“Employees working at PotashCorp’s Saskatoon office can stay in shape by taking advantage of free access to an onsite fitness facility, with instructor-led classes such as yoga and pilates offered as part of the company’s wellness initiative.

“PotashCorp created an Aboriginal Hiring Initiative to provide internships to Aboriginal students and graduates – internship range between 4 to 8 months and include positions at the company’s mine sites and corporate office.”

Ranch Ehrlo Society (Individual Family Services)

“Provides exceptional family-friendly benefits, including a generous subsidy for in vitro fertilization (IVF) if needed (up to $50,000) and maternity and parental leave top-up payments of up to 80% of salary for up to 50 weeks for employees who are new mothers.

“New employees at Ranch Ehrlo Society enjoy three weeks of starting vacation, and the organization also recognizes previous work experience when setting vacation entitlements.”

Meanwhile, Saskatchewan continues to boast the lowest unemployment rate in Canada, which, combined with beautiful landscapes and low housing prices make it a pretty great place to live.
