We’ve all heard about the mysterious career known as “hand modelling,” and many of us have wondered who the people are attached to those hands holding the burgers or chocolate bars, or putting lotion on, in advertisements.

Well, Alex Holder, part of the creative team of Oli+Alex, went and exposed some of those faces in a photo project, so we can see what Kate Moss’s hand double actually looks like.

“I’m an Advertising Creative,” Holder said, according to Business Insider, “and after spending lots of time on sets with hand and feet models, I became fascinated with this strange industry. How did they become hand models? Were they ‘spotted’? Do they become affected by the job?” he says.

The photos also feature little snippets from interviews Holder conducted.

Nina is a apparently a “hand supermodel” and is Kate Moss’s hand double. She is said to moisturize her hands about 30 times a day.

Could you do this job?

Body part modelling isn’t just limited to hands. There is demand out there for feet, hands, legs, biceps, lips, and more. So, if you think you have a particularly comely set of cuticles or calves, perhaps you should look into it. There’s some information about the profession here.

How much does it pay – if you’re not a hand supermodel like Nina? I found a couple of sources, one that says body part models earn about $100 an hour and a CNN profile of a hand model who earns about $1,200 a day.

Remember that very few models actually work every day, and some hardly work at all. But it could be a good side gig.
